Emer Higgins TD, the Minister of State for Business, Employment, and Retail, has released an updated edition of the Information Handbook: Rights and Remedies for Employees in Collective Redundancy Situations. Originally published in 2021, this handbook was revised in August 2024 to incorporate the changes that took effect on 1 July 2024. The updates include:
A requirement to notify the Minister at least 30 days in advance of any collective redundancies, including cases involving insolvency.
A new legal remedy for employees who are made redundant before the 30-day consultation period concludes.
The transfer of employer responsibilities to a liquidator or similar official in situations of insolvency.
