If I hire SME Payroll to manage my payroll, will I need to commit to a contract?
There is no contract or commitment. We will work with you to establish an agreement outlining the type of payroll services SME Payroll will provide as well as the expectations of each party.
How do I submit my payroll information to SME Payroll?
It is preferable to submit payroll data in writing should a Revenue audit take place. The format can indeed be by secure email. All documentation will be securly kept and easily attainable should it be requested. This is in compliance with our rentention period timeframe.
Does SME Payroll replace the need for my accountant's services?
SME Payroll is solely focused on helping small and mid-sized companies manage their payroll needs and government obligations.
How will my employees receive their pay?
This is entirely up to your requirements. Most clients want to understand the costs to the company. i.e. how much to pay staff, how much to pay to the Revenue, the Department of Social Welfare and to other institutions such as medical providers etc. The reports SME Payroll produces are accurately completed to high standards detailing the gross to net or net to gross figures. It can be agreed to manage the salary payment to staff should it be required.
Will my employees receive a payslip or statement?
Payslips can be sent electronically to all staff. There is no cost associated with electronic payslips.
I only have 1 to 5 employees. Do you manage payroll for companies of our size?
SME Payroll focuses solely on small to medium sized companies, we are in fact tailored for these companies. We serve many businesses with 5 employees or less and we do it very cost efficiently.
I am interested in outsourcing but worried about what’s involved with the changeover. Is it difficult?

Do you provide any year end services?
Year end is fully processed by SME Payroll. We will reconcile the entire year and provide reports to your company with advice on how to handle any liabilities or refunds due.

I am about to employ people for the first time. What do I need to do?
As an employer you will need to register with Revenue. Registration involves answering a number of questions about your business structure, so you will need to have certain information. Revenue will issue you an employer’s PAYE Tax Registration reference numbers and all PAYE taxes collected will be paid against that number. If you need help, we can assist with PAYE registration for your business, to make the process simple and hassle free. We then recommend implementing a suitable payroll service to properly pay your employees and keep on top of your obligations.
What information must I have from a new employee before I pay them?
You will require the following from the new employee:
Full name; Date of birth; Home address; PPS Number and hourly rate or annual salary values. Email for payslip distribution if that option is applicable. The most recent payslip from previous job is also helpful to have but not necessary. Once you have this information, you will be able to pay your employees through our Payroll Service.
If I am a company director or secretary do I still need to register as an employer?
Yes. Directors who are involved in the day-to-day operations of a limited company are seen as employees of that company as well as employers. If paid in the normal manner (wage/salary) then you will need to register as an employer with Revenue and setup a PAYE system.
How quickly can my company’s payroll be processed using your payroll service?
Our terms of business require that you give us the instructions for your payroll at least 48 hours before you require it to be processed so that we can manage any queries. However, we hope to be able to turn your payroll around more quickly than this on most occasions. Payslips and reports will be e-mailed to you for the fastest possible delivery or posted if you prefer.
What happens if we want to change something after the payroll has been run?
All you have to do is tell us what changes need to be made and we will recalculate the payslip(s) concerned and send you adjusted payslips and reports.
